You can buy these ready from the freezer sandwiches or make your own with a little effort. I like to make enough sandwiches for an entire week, then place them in individual zip lock freezer bags, and place in the freezer. They will defrost by lunch time when packed in school lunches. Here is a tip, when making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, I like to put a little peanut butter on each side of bread, then jelly in the middle. This helps avoid the bread from getting soggy from the jelly. I have a similar method for deli meat sandwiches. I put a slice or two of deli meat on one side, mayo and mustard in center, then top with cheese. This will keep your bread from getting soggy from the condiments.

My son is a huge fan of beef jerky. I love that it has a lot of protein, with out a lot of fat. You can buy them individually sealed for easy packing, and you don't have to worry about keeping them cold.
When ever I go to the dollar store, I stock up on the tuna and chicken salad packs. They even have a low fat variety to choose from. Nothing to pack or keep cold, makes for a quick and easy lunch.

I love that you don't need to waste a plastic spoon with these. I will freeze them along with his juice and pack them in his lunch. My son reports back to me that the yogurt is still cold by lunch time, and the juice is like a slushy, which he enjoys.
The CapriSun Sunrise variety has added calcium, and is one of our favorite juices for sack lunches.
If you have a large family it might be worth your while to buy an economy size large bag of chips, and pack individual portions into zip lock plastic bags at the beginning of the week. Since only one of my kids is in school, I find it easier to purchase the chips already packaged individually. They seem to stay fresher this way, since it takes us so long to eat up an entire large bag. I love that you can find healthier varieties too with the Sun Chips and backed chip choices.
My son loves that these taste like a chewy candy bar, I love that they are individually wrapped and nutritious.

For a sweet treat that I don't feel to guilty packing, I will send my son with the yogurt covered raisins or fruit snacks that have added vitamin C.
Let's not forget these nutritious choices that require little work on our part to pack.
With these above items on hand, my young son can pack his own lunch, and has done so on more then one occasion. I know in our house, we struggle to get out the door on time for school, but at least I know lunch is in the bag.

Nearly half of day care centers, he says, require parents to pack lunches. Older children, too, often skip the hot lunch program at school and presumably take their own brown bag lunches.
