Fall 2011 Kid Trends

Bonds

Fashion and accessories for babies and kids change just as much as adult fashion. Whether you’re looking for Bonds online or just browsing around wondering what the cool kids (literally) are wearing these days, read on. We have a preview of the trends coming up for the fall season!

Animal prints

This fall, kids will be wearing all kinds of animal prints, thanks to the popularity of animal movies like Rio and Madagascar. The prints appear on clothes, accessories and even baby stuff like car seats.

Some popular prints for kids are dogs’ paws, zebra and animal silhouettes like polar bears and deer. It’s always tasteful and discreet and brings an organic feel to baby’s clothes.

Theatrical

Kids love to dress up and put on plays. Now they can do so every day wearing their regular clothes! Brands like Mim-Pi are especially into this trend. Multicolor stripes, vintage look and goth style are all part of this trend.

Kids will like the ability to mix and match about any piece and be playful with their looks and the colors they wear. Top hats and fascinators included!

Plaid

Kids look great in plaid, and it’s a big trend this season. It can be a discreet, understated plaid for boys or something more colorful and feminine for girls.

Plaid emphasizes the classic and traditional look, perfect for a special occasion or to impress on the first day of school. Pair it with a woolen pull or a nice multicolor scarf to complete the look!

Sparkles

Girls love sparkly things, and this season’s trends lets them express that love by wearing sparkles everywhere: skirts, tops, hats, pants, even shoes sparkle this fall!

Pair a great sparkly skirt with a simple cotton cami or t-shirt, and your girl will be the belle of the neighbourhood party.

1960s

The popularity of Mad Men extends into fashion; Banana Republic even has a “Are You Betty?” campaign right now. Kids’ designers also caught up on the trend by producing clothes inspired by the 1960s: sharp silhouettes, soft prints, pastel colors and little details like embroideries or flowers.

If you’d like your kids to look like Betty’s children, pick up on the 1960s trend going on right now and look like the perfect old school family!

Neutral and natural

Get inspiration from nature by getting clothes in neutral browns, beiges and creams with a dash of leafy green or sunny yellow. Natural fabrics are also popular, with cotton and wool at the edge of the trends.

The hand-made, hand-knit look is especially popular right now, given the emphasis on recycling and DIY fashion these days. Lots of designers caught up on these trends.

As always with kids’ fashion, never force a piece of clothing on a kid that he or she doesn’t like. It’s always good to let them roam around the store to let them find the pieces they like most—maybe a nice Marquise top? After all, it’s them wearing the clothes all day, not you!
