Jillian Michaels, star of the Biggest Loser, has teamed up with Self Magazine and has launched her new diet and exercise regimen called Jump Start Diet.
The Jump Start Diet features 22 fat burning foods to help get your weight loss on the right track. Some of these foods include black olives, tea, fresh fruit, whole organic eggs and dark chocolate. Jillian recommends avoiding butter, peanuts, processed soy and white flour.
I would like to lose approximately 20 pounds and I've been searching for a diet plan that is easy to follow and effective. I first read about the Jump Start Diet in a copy of Self Magazine while at the hair salon. The first thing that peaked my interest was the variety of food choices and that the menu sounded easy to prepare as well as very tasty. Since this meal plan peaked my interested, I decided to try one or two of the breakfast meals before I began the entire program.
The first breakfast mealed I tried was the whole grain waffles topped with almond butter, honey and bananas. I have to admit that at first I was sceptical about how this would taste. However, once I took my first bite - it was delicous. In fact, I was raving so much about how great it was, my kids came running to try it for themselves. And they too said it was very delicous. At that moment I thought to myself, if all of the foods are this tasty, this is definitely a diet I can stick to.
Yesterday, I decided to start the Jump Start Diet. I will record my progress as well as my thoughts on the meals. To make it easy for myself, I created a spreadsheet for the week listing what I was planning on eating for breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner and dessert.
Day 1
Breakfast
Almond Muffin - 1 Whole wheat english muffin topped with almond butter and 1 orange or kiwi.
My Thoughts - Almond butter on anything tastes great and this is no exception :). Additionally, I felt full and satisfied until lunch time.
Lunch
Soup and Sammy - Tomato soup and turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread topped with cheese, tomato and lettuce.
My Thoughts - I like tomato soup so this was an enjoyable and satisying lunch. The addition of the tomato and lettuce (which I normally don't add to sandwiches made at home) was a great addition. I felt full until around 3pm at which time I had the snack below.
Snack
Chips and Salsa - 15 baked tortilla chips and 1/2 cup of salsa
My Thoughts - Chips and salsa are one of my weaknesses so when I saw this as one of the snack choices, I was very happy. I bought the Tostitos baked tortilla scoops and Tostitos restaurant style salsa and this was very good. The urge to eat more than 15 chips was definitely present however I ate the 15 chips. I still felt hungry after this snack but resisted the urge to cheat.
Dinner
Steak and Squash - Broiled flank steak served with 3 cups of spaghetti squash topped with a tomato, onion and garlic sauce
My Thoughts - I sprinkled salt, pepper and garlic on the flank and broiled it for 14 minutes. It was quite tasty and tender. I had never tried spaghetti squash and in fact the cashier at the grocery story mentioned that she hardly ever sees customers buy this type of squash. The squash was halfed and then baked in the oven. After 45 mins, I removed the squash and began scraping the meat of the squash out of the shell. The meat as it is removed looks like strings of spaghetti. I half of the squash resulted in 3 cups. The squash topped with the tomato, garlic and onion sauce had a good flavor. I wasn't able to finish all of the squash as I was full. This meal made enough to have it again for left overs the next evening.
Dessert
Grape Delight - Grapes and 1 mozzarella cheese stick
My Thoughts - Fruit and cheese is always a nice treat.
