Today, there is a growing need for well educated teachers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation's mission is to help fill this growing need by helping new graduates or those looking for a career change make the transition to a science, technology, engineering or math teacher. Additionally, funding from several foundations and government agencies provides $30,000 fellowship to recent graduates and career changers in science, technology, engineering, and math to complete an intensive, clinically-based master’s program at participating universities. The Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowships seeks to recruit, prepare and retain effective teachers for the students and schools who need them most.
Competitive candidates will:
- Have completed an undergraduate degree in a science, technology, engineering or math field by June 2011.
- Have graduated with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the program and its goals.
Fellows will:
- Complete a field-based master’s degree in teacher education.
- Commit to teach for at least three years in a high-need school.
- Receive intensive support and mentoring in the classroom.
