The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) is a nonprofit organization that educates consumers on buying diability equipment from a NMEDA qualified dealer.
NMEDA does not sell anything. It is the only association that promotes safe driving and equipment for disabled people. NMEDA's dealers or members are required to adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NMEDA dealers sell handicap vans and vehicle modifications for disabled people.
NMEDA wants consumers to be cautious about buying adapted wheelchair vehicles over the Internet or in catalogs as these may not adhere to safety standards. A NMEDA dealer will conduct an in person personalized evaluation with the client to make sure that they are getting the right driving solution customized to their specific lifestyle and needs. Additional training or product refinements will be done if needed.
NMEDA has Quality Assurance Program (QAP) dealers also. These dealers are the only ones that are part of the nationally recognzied accrediation program for the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry. They beleive that in order to satify a customer consistently, they must have a systemic and documented approach to quality.
When my elderly grandmother came to live with us, it was very difficult for my mother and I to get her in and out of the car. A local NMEDA qualified dealer could have helped us to get equipment to assist my grandmother, my mother and I.
Providing the elderly with car enhancements from a NMEDA dealer will help them get back on the road and regain their indepedence.
Through the NMEDA.org website I was able to find a dealer that is only 50 miles away from me. My parents are getting up in age and this is a good resource to have in the event that they need a little extra help.
Visit NMEDA.org and find a dealer in your area. Post a comment here letting us know about your closest qualified dealer.
