Building an Entertainment Center

My family room has 19' ceiling and very large wall.  This wall is the perfect place for an entertainment center.  However, finding the perfect entertainment center is a difficult and expensive task. Therefore, I have decided to build my own drywall entertainment center.  It will look similar to a built-in entertainment center in that it will be covered with drywall and painted the color of the wall.  You can follow my progress here as I have a set goal for myself to be finish by the end of August 2010.  Wish me luck!

The Plans

I drew out with measurements exactly how I want the entertainment center to look. The opening is very large to accommodate whatever size TV we want to get now or in the future.  We out grew our old entertainment center when we updated to a 37" TV and we didn't want that to happen again.

Progress as July 27th, 2010

The two side section framing has been completed.  This weekend, we will hopefully finish the middle section framing.  Then it'll be time for the drywall.  Some decisions we'll have to make as we get further into the project is how to hide the wires for the TV, cable, DVD player, and video game consoles.  We have some initial thoughts that I'll share with you as I get further into the project.
